Kalimera, we are Jenny and Matthias, certified Sound Therapists living on the Greek island of Kimolos in the Aegean Sea. We offer Sunset Sound Baths and Private Sound Baths here on the island as well as weekly Sound Healing from Greece straight to your headphones on our YouTube channel. In this blogpost, we answer the most frequently asked questions so you know what to expect from a Sound Bath in Greece.
What makes a Sound Bath in Greece different?
A Sound Bath in Greece is often shaped by the landscape around it. On Kimolos, our Sunset Sound Baths take place on a small headland surrounded by the sea. So, instead of an ocean drum, there are natural ocean sounds. The raw atmosphere of the Cyclades becomes part of the experience. Instead of separating the instruments from nature, we weave both together. Crystal singing bowls and cicadas. A tongue drum and the sound of the Aegean Sea.
What instruments are used in a Greek island Sound Bath?
Not all Sound Healing instruments work well outdoors. In our Sunset Sound Baths, we intentionally work with frosted crystal singing bowls, larger planetary chimes and tuning tubes. You can listen to them in our Sunset Sound Bath on YouTube. In Private Sound Baths with up to three guests, we also play Tibetan singing bowls, tuning forks and smaller chimes like Koshi or Zaphir chimes.
How is a Sound Bath different from a yoga class?
A Sound Bath is passive, whereas most yoga classes are active. Instead of moving through physical exercises or poses, you simply lie down comfortably and listen. No special flexibility is required. Imagine Savasana, the final relaxation pose at the end of a yoga class. Just with magical sounds, more comfortable mats and pillows đ
Can I join a Sound Bath if Iâve never meditated before?
Absolutely. No prior experience with meditation techniques is necessary. On the contrary. A Sound Bath is a great way to get started. The different sounds gently take your monkey mind by the hand, which often makes 60 minutes feel much more accessible than silent meditation.
What should I wear to a Sound Bath in Greece?
First and foremost, wear comfortable clothing that does not constrict you and allows you to breathe easily. If you join a Sound Bath during the day, make sure to apply sunscreen. Our Sunset Sound Baths usually start in the evening and finish around sunset, so we also provide light blankets to keep you warm.
Do I need to bring anything?
Weâll have everything ready for you on site: mats, pillows, light blankets and eye masks. We also serve warm Greek mountain tea at sunset, but itâs a good idea to bring a bottle of water for the way there. And if you can, give yourself a little time afterwards. Itâs best not to make dinner plans immediately after the Sound Bath, so you donât have to rush.
Can I book a Sound Bath as a couple?
Of course. You can join one of our Sunset Sound Baths as a couple or book a Private Sound Bath just for the two of you. A Private Sound Bath can take place at your accommodation, on the beach or at another beautiful spot on Kimolos.
Is a Sound Bath safe during pregnancy?
Generally speaking, yes, as long as you feel comfortable lying on a mat for 60 minutes. We use aromatherapy as a complementary element during our Sound Baths, so please let us know in advance if you are pregnant and we will skip the oils for you. If you are unsure, please check with your gynecologist first.
What happens if the weather is bad?
âBad weatherâ in the Cyclades during summer usually means wind đ
A Sound Bath does not work well in strong winds, so whether we can host it depends on both wind speed and wind direction. We usually decide no later than 24 hours before the event whether to postpone or cancel. If you are no longer on the island on the alternate date, we will of course refund your ticket.
We often receive requests for Sunset Sound Baths right at the beginning or end of the season, but we cannot always make them happen because we need enough people to join.
Even during peak season, many visitors are only on Kimolos for a few days. They look forward to a Sound Bath, and then the wind suddenly changes the plan.
Since we live here, we have become pretty good at taking things as they come. So please donât be sad if it doesnât work out during your stay. Thatâs also why we created our YouTube channel. We publish new Sound Baths every week! From Greece straight to your headphones.
